Denis Clohessy
Denis studied music (Composition and History of Music) in NUI Maynooth and completed the UCLA certified Screen Training Ireland course in Film Scoring.
In early 1998 Denis' first professional engagement was producing string arrangements for the band 'The Prayerboat' on their internationally critically acclaimed album 'Polichinelle'. He went on to perform keyboards for the band as a guest musician over the next two years.
Around this time Denis started composing music for film. His work to date includes the feature films ‘Older Than Ireland' (Snack Box Films), the award winning 'His and Hers' (Venom film),' The Irish Pub' (Atom Films), 'The Reluctant Revolutionary' (Underground Films), 'The Land of the Enlightened' (Savage Film/Fastnet Films) and 'In View' (Underground Cinema).
Denis's television work includes Alex Fegan’s ‘Am I here?’, ‘The Confessors’ and ‘Abbeyfealegood’ (Atom Films), 'The Dead Zoo’ directed by Paul Duane, ‘The Limits of Liberty' (South Wind Blows) performed by the RTE Concert Orchestra and Will Sliney’s (Marvel comics) animation series ‘Storytellers’ (Solar Flare Films).
He has also composed widely for Dance and Theatre productions including the Olivier award winning 'Silent' (Fishamble). He has worked extensively for the Abbey and Gate theatres as well as for a multitude of Independent theatre companies.
He was an Irish Times theatre award winner in 2011 and 2020 and in 2008 was an Associate Artist with the Abbey theatre.
