SCGI welcomes a new initiative from Department of Social Protection and the Department of Arts, Heritage Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs under the Creative Ireland programme, which allows self employed artists and creators to access Job Seekers allowance in times of low income. This scheme will recognise the specific needs of professional artists allowing job seekers to be drawn down for up to one year without the normal requirement of looking for other work. The scheme recognises the need for artists to spend time investing in their creative practice and their career. See video below for more information on this programme. Job seekers is subject to means testing and proof of professional status as artist is required. SCGI will provide members with a letter confirming membership and can advocate on your behalf.
